About
Alistair is a dynamic conductor, educator, and trombonist with a career spanning orchestras, brass bands, and community ensembles across the UK and beyond. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and Folkwang University of the Arts, and has conducted groups including Kingdom Brass and the Glasgow Orchestral Society. He is currently Associate Conductor of the Dunbartonshire Concert Band and Conductor of the Linlithgow Reed Training Band, while also guesting with various orchestras in Scotland. He also leads a popular Come and Play series, which brings musicians together to explore challenging repertoire in a welcoming, collaborative setting.
In 2025, Alistair completed a postgraduate degree in Conducting for Community and Youth Ensembles at the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with leading mentors and attending masterclasses with internationally respected conductors. He has reached advanced stages in major competitions, including the Frederick Fennell Conducting Competition and the Brass Band Conductors Association Competition. Alongside conducting, he teaches with Sistema Scotland and at Loretto School, inspiring the next generation of brass players. Based in Falkirk, Alistair balances his musical life with his family, two cats, three chickens, and a love of squash.
